Fleece Jumper with a pouch

Today I am going to teach you how to make the second project from my "Fun with Fleece" series. It is a fleece Jumper (or tunic, depending how long you make it. I actually was thinking this year a Jumper, next year a Tunic). It is a really easy, fun little sewing project you can sew up in an evening...Let's get right to the point!

What you will need:
1/2 yard fun printed fleece
Scraps of thick knit material (i cut up an old pair of jogging pants)

Pattern
You can download my pattern here for size 3-4T or take the bodice piece of a t-shirt pattern you have and make it as long as a dress or tunic. You just need the front and back bodice, no sleeves.

Cutting
Cut one front dress piece and one back dress piece from fleece.
Cut one pouch piece from your knit material
Cut two strips (as long as the width of the bodice) and 3.5" wide
Cut a long strip for the neckline and the armholes, 2.5" by however long you have (since I used an old pair of jogging pants, I didn't have enough material for one long strip, so I sewed a few short ones together).

Sewing
Sew the shoulder seams.

Measure your front and back neckline
My measurements are:
Back neckline 6.5"
Front neckline 10"

Cut 2 pieces of your long strip to those measurements. Sew them right sides together, using 1/2 " seam allowance (You want your strip to be a bit smaller than your actual neckline, so it won't stretch out).

Now fold your strip in half on the long side and pin to the neckline, raw edges together. Start pinning the seams from the band to the shoulder seams. Then continue pinning, stretching the band a bit as you go.

Sew the band to the neck, using a stretch stitch. Flip the band up and then topstitch around the neck, using a stretch stitch and sewing the seam allowance down towards the dress (away from the neckband).

Take your pouch piece and fold the rounded parts (the pocket openings) over 1/4" and pin. Sew along the fold.

Fold the top of the pouch and the bottom fold 1/4" and pin.

Now place your pouch onto the front bodice and pin. Sew along the top and the bottom (do not sew the pocket openings). You can use a decorative stitch or just a regular one.

Sew side seams

Now take the rest of your strip and sew it onto the armholes, in the same manner you did the neck. My strips were 7" long (two for each arm).

Last part - Take your two rectangles and sew them right sides together to form a loop. The fold them on the long side, wrong sides together, and pin them to the bottom of the jumper, lining up the raw edges and sew around. Topstitch around and you are done!

Make a pair of leggings and a long sleeve shirt to match and you have a whole outfit! (I made the leggings from the rest of the jogging pants and the shirt is upcycled from a shirt I didn't want anymore...).

I will be linking up to some of the link parties on this page .
